From fairs to food to festivals, summer brings fun in a variety of forms along with warmer weather. While many of us make it a summer tradition to hit the beach at least once or twice throughout the summer season, there is plenty of summer fun to be had in Chester County. Better yet, there are a number of entertaining activities that you, your friends, or family can experience without breaking the bank.
Chester County offers a little something for everyone from the discriminating fair food connoisseur to music lovers who live for outdoor concerts. Here are just a few free or inexpensive events happening this summer that are sure to keep the fun factor fed and your wallet happy, too.

Celebrating its 20th year as a public garden and having played host to the Rosegarten estate for 100 years, Chester County’s Chanticleer Garden offers a pleasant respite from more boisterous summer shenanigans. Brimming with beautiful flowers and offering an unspoiled look at carefully-cultivated blooms, Chanticleer has a number of lush floral exhibits including the Teacup Garden, a cut flower and vegetable garden, and more.
Children and garden professionals may visit the grounds for free and reduced rates are offered to PA Horticultural Society members and Radnor Library cardholders. The price of admission for adults 13+ is $10.00

Chester County’s annual Independence Weekend festival celebrates freedom and the birth of the U.S.A. with food, live music and entertainment, and activities for the kids. The festivities conclude with a fun-filled fireworks display sure to delight Chester County residents of all ages. Admission to the festival is free, although there is a small $10 parking fee.
A Vintage Garage Sale

A garage sale actually held in a parking garage, the Vintage Garage Sale brings together a variety of vintage and antique finds, wine tasting, and live jazz music. Held each spring and summer First Friday in West Chester through September, the event is free to attend. Two-hour parking is free with the purchase of any of the antique or vintage-inspired items for sale. Best of all, there are no rain dates to worry about since the parking garage offers protection from the elements, allowing patrons to browse freely for unique vintage clothes, jewelry, home goods, and other items.
While summer is a wonderful time to enjoy local events with friends and family, there are a number of year-round, budget-friendly activities throughout Chester County that offer fun for all ages.
